Show New High-Speed Steel. For the ninnui'acUii'e of hi;:h-speetl steel a new process, in which no tungsten, tung-sten, molybdenum, cobalt or vanadium Is used, has been Introduced In England. Eng-land. In former processes In the high pressed tungsten was an indispensable alloy, its use In normal times running as high us 14 to 1M per cent. It Is said that tin1 Ingredients of the new steel are freely obtainable wherever steel is manufactured. It is also said to be obtainable only for turning, planing plan-ing nnd slotting tools, all of which cam be made by casting. It Is not suitable suit-able for twist drills or milling cutters. The tools in which it can be used, however, how-ever, take up about T.j per cent of th entire consumption of steel for machine ma-chine tools. Puti-nls in other countries coun-tries are being applied for, and It l proposed soon to place (he process before be-fore steel-makers in this country. |
