Show t , The Freese Farm There is a little nest of good farms tucked in about Sutherland, Suther-land, embracing those of Hy Sherer, Ross Simkins, Myron Abbott, Ab-bott, Winn Walker, and Henry Freese. My family and I spent Sunday with. Mr. and Mrs. Freese, in company with the families of Frank Heise and Geo. Meinhardt.. Henry has eighty acres here, land that I think is very good, nicely situated, fairly easy to work, and productive. Last year, our reader? will remember, remem-ber, this land yielded one of the best wheat crops hereabouts; this year, the crop is a very good one, considering the year and general conditions pertaining. Henry expects his wheat to run quite satisfactorily, but at this writing the run per acre is not known as he hasn't threshed yet. I took a picture of the wheat field, piled with bundles strewn in pretty thick. Mr. Freese owns 320 acres in Nebraska, which he still farms on rental, having sold all his live stock there when he came tc Utah. He is a very careful man, a good farmer, and prosperous. On the place I counted sixtj four head of pigs, well fed anc thriving; three cows; horses galore; ga-lore; colts and calves. Everything Every-thing about the place bespeaks management and prudent forethought. fore-thought. Henry is an ardent believer ir sugar beets. His crop 'this yeai is only fair, but better last season. sea-son. However the crop is gooc enough to encourage him foi more acreage into beets nexi year. He also pins his faith t( alfalfa as to pigp, he has nearly a car load, even if war conditions make it almost unprofitable t raise them- When conditions right themselves, he will havi more pigs, with a combinatior of alfalfa hay and some foi seed, sugar beets, and cows anc chickens and if that doesn'' spell prosperity then my school ing is at fault. It has built bricl houses before, and all the virtui isn't worn out of that combina tion yet. Crops of last year were gooc enough with Henry - so that with the prospects of this seasoi established to a certainty, hi then bought a Hupmobile; hi was first justified, and ther made the purchase. This farm is in keeping witl the others of this portion of thi North Tract that ranks so well As Winn Walker puts it, "Ex cepting mine, I think my broth er William has the best suga beet crop in the valley." So excepting these several hie farms, there may be some fairl; good ones elswhere. And thos other good farms will be men tioned in these columns shortly. Frank Beckwith. are candidates for the location o the twelve banks, the need fo the service, etc. The Department officials re quest, therefore, that the Count; Agents assist in giving thi meeting as wide publicity as i possible. Will you kindly give this mat ter your attention. C G. Peterson. |
