Sprunt and Dr. Goodwin, accompanied by an agricultural expert from the east, came down from Salt Lake last Saturday morning on business connected with the new sugar factory. Saturday they accompanied the agriculturalist over the farming districts -of the valley and Sunday Sun-day they took him to the Sevier Bridge dam. He was exceedingly exceed-ingly well pleased with his observations ob-servations here and stated that we had one of the very best sugar beet propositions in the United States. He left Monday for the east where he will make a report on his findings. The site of the factory has been definitely located just uTider the brow of the bench about three-quarters of a mile northeast north-east of town. This is an ideal location and is within easy reach of town. The company has secured 132 acres of land there and Tuesday morning started work cleaning the brush from it after which the ground around the factory location will be sanded and made ready for construction work, J. P. Sprunt which the gentlemen on the ground assure us will begin without with-out delay, as soon as the contract can be let winch was supposed to have been passed on yesterday yester-day in the east and the machinery machin-ery can be placed on the ground. ! The location of a factory in the valley means the rapid upbuilding up-building of the whole country around it and, will be the means of bringing- the farming industry in-dustry to a scientific basis be sides bringing in many more families who will pursue agricultural agri-cultural occupations and tend to make the valley a big winter feeding . locality. We have the ground on which to grow immense im-mense crops of beets and alfalfa and with the coming of a factory all we will need to make this country a big stock feeding country coun-try is the stock, and it ranges right at our door and will come with the factory. Mr. Goodwin stated that unless the railroad employees strike, machinery and construction material will begin coming in within a short time. We asked Dr. Goodwin to make a statement and he furnished us with the following announcement: announce-ment: Delta, Ut, Aug. 29th, 1916. Mr. C. O. Davis, Millard Co. Chronicle, Dear Sir:-- Dr. A. G. Goodwin On behalf of my associates am authorized to say that the Delta sugar factory is now financed and work has commenced. A one thousand ton daily capacity capa-city factory will be completed in time to handle the 1917 beet crop. regardless of present threatened railroad strike which may delay construction temporally, tempora-lly, should it occur. We are very much gratified with unusually favorable beet growing conditions in the Delta District and genuine enthusiasm of all the farmers for a sugar beet factory. Our agricultural and irrigation expert has just completed a very thorough examination of the district and finds conditions highly favorable for the successful success-ful growing of sugar beets of i high sugar content and purity j coefficient as well as heavy ton-j ton-j nage per acre. The only thing lacking at present is more farmers, farm-ers, and they will come when : they learn of the inducement offered here for the successful ' growing of sugar beets. Mr. Sprunt will be in charge of the work here until our superintendent super-intendent arrives to arrange for installation of the machinery. ! Please extend to the people our appreciation of their hearty I cooperation in this enterprise. Yours very truly, Dr. A. G. Goodwin. |
