A special to the Herald-Republican from St. Anthony, Idaho, says: Plans to kidnap Roland Harriman, son of Mrs. E. H. Harriman, hold him for a ransom of $100,000, and in case this ransom was not paid, to blind the boy and otherwise disfigure disfig-ure him for life, have been frustrated by the arrest here of the parties to the plot. Three men, Marion A. Lufkin, David Majors, are now in jail charged with .Vlaojrs, are now in Jail charged with conspiracy to go to Island Park, where young Harriman is spending his vacation, vaca-tion, kidnap him and hold him for ransom. ran-som. Lufkin was arrested at Island Park, where he had secured a position as a ranch hand, by Deputy Sheriff Hudson Hud-son on suspicion of being implicated in a burglary here. 'When taken to jail and given the third degree, he denied de-nied the burglary, but confessed that he went to the ranch for the purpose of kidnaping young Harriman and implicated im-plicated the two other men, giving all the details of the plot. Later the other two men were located lo-cated in the northern part of the county coun-ty in the mountains in the region of Kilgore, were arrested and brought here and placed in jail, when McLoy also confessed. Zufelt denies being implicated in the affair. The men were equipped with guns, knives and on one was found the letter which was to be sent after the kidnaping, kid-naping, demanding the ransom of $100,000. Lufkin was to notify the others when to come and carry out the y'an under his direction. His arrest prevented pre-vented the completion of the plan. |
