Show Byron Takes Pen in Hand ! Editor Beckwith, I have been reading what you and Dick Morrison have been telling tell-ing the world about the "dollar," and doing it gratuitously. It is disgusting dis-gusting to a person of propound understanding to have to listen or read such unerrudite drivel. In the first place, you two ginks haven't as much as an across-the-street nodding acquaintance with a dollar. If you ever happen to be riding on a train with a big financial fin-ancial writer, you will find out who he is without asking.; he will be asking what time it is because his watch is in hock. Pooey on managed currency. Hitler Hit-ler had the best managed currency in the world and look what happened hap-pened to Germany. Pooey to the statement that money in itself has no value. When I use the word money, I mean gold and silver, the only true money there is. It is indestructible by fire or floods. This is the thing that cannot be said about paper money. It costs no more to print a $1,000 bill than a $1.00 bill, but a thousand thous-and ounces of gold or silver can't be produced at the same cost as one ounce, because the labor differential diff-erential is too great. Labor performed per-formed is the only true measure of commercial values, therefore metallic met-allic money, gold and silver, is not only a medium of exchange but a measure of values as well, it is more than that, it is a storehouse of wealth. Not only that, but both metals are lavishly used for personal per-sonal adornment, in the aits and industry. About one year ago our Government loaned to industry 40 tons of silver and l!-j tons of gold, to be returned at the close of the war. That answers the statement that money of itself has no value. Whether or not there is to be a post-war world currency based on a hard money was not revealed by the big shots -otheisisayimoni by the Big 3 at Yalta it may be that the Big 3 intended to come to Delta to get their bearings, but got the names mixed and went to Yalta Yal-ta by mistake. We of Delta just don't know our own strength, this town is pust crawling with "world savers." Dick takes in more territory than Beck, he said we could jump our national debt, if that will work then why not jump our prvate and personal debts? But then, it may be that is what he is fixing to get around to. 'To further unmask and showup those two ginks on the money question, ques-tion, I will give them one guess back (guessing is all they are doing do-ing anyway) on how much base metal alloy is contained in a current cur-rent silver coin, or gold coin if a-vailable, a-vailable, and bet you that neither of you can come within 50 of being be-ing right. If I were to write a piece for this paper setting forth the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, about money, then where would you ginks be? Just left standing there before "full public gaze casting cast-ing about for a barrel to walk home in. Being Republicans you would probably call for a recount. F. L. Byron (Editor's note: Mr. Byron is well qualified to write on the monetary situation having taken and "been taken" by the Townsend Plan.) |
