Show College Students Taller than GIs BERKELEY, CALIF. In the western part of the United States, the average young woman is 5 feet, 3Yi Inches tall and weighs 127 pounds, while the average male is 3 feet, 8 Inches in height and weighs.'il'A pounds. McCown, University of California anthropologist, for the committee on prosthetic devices of the National Research council. The study was made to obtain average arm and leg measurements, and the standard statistics obtained will be used in the improvement of artificial arti-ficial limbs. The 1,000 young women measured were college students and WAVES. Men measured included 800 soldiers sol-diers and sailors, 700 college students, stu-dents, and 300 males from the general gen-eral population. Greater differences differ-ences were found among the college col-lege students than among the soldiers sol-diers and sailors. College students were about one inch taller and two and one-quarter pounds heavier than military personnel. |
