Show Worker on Atomic Bomb 4 Visits Mother Here rSi' j t- Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell F. Jordan V arrived in Delta Monday and are visiting here with Mr. Jordan's ; mother, Mrs. Laura Egan. It has been fourteen years since Mr. Jordan Jor-dan had seen his mother, then ' in Texas, and this is the first trip into this part of the west. From here he and Mrs. Jordan will drive to Washington to visit her mother. For the past two years Mr. and Mrs. Jordan have lived at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where he worked work-ed on the atomic bomb project. Mr. Jordan says it is known as the Ghost Town," although it still has a population of 60,000, and at one time 85,000, for the reason that no whisper came from the town concerning work they were engaged in. Mr. Jordan has been awarded a certificate from the War Department Depart-ment that reads: "United States of America, War Department, Army Service Forces, Corps of Engineers, Manhattan District, This is to certify cert-ify that Mitchell F. Jordan, Tennessee Tenn-essee Eastman Corporation, has participated in work essential to the produstion of the Atomic Bomb thereby contributing to the successful suc-cessful conclusion of World War II. This certificate is awarded in appreciation ap-preciation of effective service." It is signed by Henry L. Stinson, Sec. of War, August 6, 1945. He also has a lapel button that designates his services on the bomb. Mr. Jordan has also made his wife some souvenirs of stainless steel. One piece is a necklace, with a bomb for the pendant, end a pair of ear rings with a tiny bomb for c ' the ornament. i |
