Show Curios Are Shown At Open House An open house was held on Friday Fri-day afternoon at the home of Rev. and Mrs. W. Carl Nugent and many guests called during the afternoon and evening to view the curios that their hosts had gathered in Japan. Rev. and Mrs. Nugent spent twenty years in Japan, returning to this country in 1941. They were enabled to bring home with them many articles of value and interest, which were shown Friday. Prominent in the displays were the Girls' and Boys' Festivals, annual an-nual celebrations in Japan and the households. Each set of figures, del-cately del-cately wrought, and beautifully dressed, miniature furniture, and animal, represent a legend or a symbol, and are used in a formal arrangement to portray the meaning mean-ing of these festivals, one in March, and one in May. There was a beautiful display of Japanese dishes, some pieces old and rare, laquer work, tea kettles and braziers. There were kimonas, bis, a cabinet of teak and delicate little figures and articles, paintings some old-fashioned mirrors, that were all metal, the polished side for the reflection and the backs decorated. There were toys and doll's tables and carved boxes, all part of a very interesting and valuable val-uable collection. Tea was served during the afternoon, aft-ernoon, and assisting Mrs. Nugent were Mrs. Isokawa and Mrs. Ta-machi, Ta-machi, who prepared and served the tea as they were taught in Japanese Ja-panese households. |
