Show i k Q Here are some win-ners win-ners in the seventh an- fiuol "News Pictures of ; The Year" competition ,' sponsored jointly by the ; University of Missouri i school of journalism end the Encyclopedia Brirannica. More than 3,000 pictures were judged in the interna- tional competition, rep-resenting rep-resenting the work of 594 photographers from 32 states. At right, "Bull's Eye," by John Rammell, Decatur, III., Herald-Review, won first prize in the sports di-5 di-5 vision. This was one of ::: the pictures from small-er small-er dailies that scored im-; im-; pressively in the compe- tition, encouraging sponsors spon-sors in the belief that : emphasis on photo-jour-: nalism is being felt to an increasing degree. I O Warren Lee of Acme, who captioned this photo (above) "Death in Shanghai," won first place over 591 rivals in the news event picture competition. The pic-i pic-i ture shows the street execution of Communists by a ' Shanghai policeman.
