Quake, Blast Or Rumbling Disturbs Peace Don't be unduly alarmed if you have been hearing dull thuds, booms, bumps in the attic, rattling of doors and shuddering of window win-dow panes, for you are not the only one, and it is not bats in the belfry. For reports circulated on Tuesday from numerous citizens of experiencing these symptoms, and wondering what went on. There is a choice of three explanations ex-planations for the mystery and readers can choose their favorite. It may have been an earthquake, it may have been blasting, or it may have been rumbling of the mountains. The Chronicle office was happily listening to the banging of the presses when the first telephone reports began coming in, and the queries of what is that racket? According to the Salt Lake Tribune Wednesday the seismograph at the University of Utah showed nothing for the periods per-iods when the quakes were felt. Also officers at Tooele Ordnance depot, Tooele, said blasting underway under-way at Dugway proving grounds would .not be felt as far away as the tremors were reported. What Do You Think? So there we are was it quake, blast or spring opening of rumbling rumb-ling of mountains. Whatever it was, it was no pipe dream, for there are countless ear-witnesses of the mystery. |
