Show Tliunderbirds lose on the road; ivindup season this week Southern Utah State College will try and close out the 1972-73 season on a happy note as they host Western Raw Mexico on Friday and Adams State on Saturday. The T-Birds dropped close games to both schools earlier in the campaign. The T-Birds lost to the Indians In-dians 79-67, but the game was close until the final minutes. it would be enough to give a man gray hairs before he was 20. The T Birds Jumped out to a 21-4 lead over the Mountain-eers, Mountain-eers, but a combination of turnovers and one-sided officiating offic-iating spelled defeat for the Southern Utah crew, as Western West-ern won 83-77. Saturday's 62 Gl loss at Durango was another heart- breaker, as the T-Birds were in it all the way. But, as luck would have it. the Cedar City crew continued to have had luck on the road. Kohn Smith and the rest of tha T-Bird guards did not have especially good luck on the road. Southern Utah now has a 12-10 season record. Missed free throws in the game's final minutes cost Stan Jack's team a 75-72 overtime over-time loss to the Mustangs. The Indians are paced by 6 9 center Craig Mortensen and guard Phil Belmore. West, em is led by Ernie Signars and Dennis KowaLski, a pair of front line strong boys. Tuesday night, the T-Birds were to have traveled to Salt Lake City for a game with arch rival Westminster.
