Show and reasoning are exactly the same as in the actual nighttime ban. Killing another man's cattle is an ancient crime identified and punishable by a hundred existing laws. They all fall into the Thou Shalt not destroy or steal thy neighbor's properly category and are much older than Moses. No law is any more effective than its enforcement and the diligent punishment of offenders. Therefore this new law w ill carry a new responsibility for our sheriff to not only stop the truly criminal destruction of property under the old statutes, but now he must chase after every shot in the dark. To illustrate the absurdity of this type of legislation, I mention an ordinance passed last fall by our neighboring LaVerkin Town Council. In a very serious and formally written document, that august body outlawed slingshots and flippers, and tin1 throwing of any sticks or stones or similar missiles within the sacrosanct boundaries of said town. They might just as well require all the town's shoppers have their hands cut off to prevent shoplifting there! So much for the humor. My last point is the sobering fact that our guns and their free use is the only thing the world dictators in and out of this country respect and fear. It is one thing for tyrants to crush brave Hungarians carrying only axes and fire bombs. It is another thing to take on America's armed citizenry with more private fire power in their closets than all the con ventional weapons in all the standing armies of the world, including our own. Now those city dudes back East can register their guns;' or sell them for the standing $100 bounty some eastern cities offer; they can even sell their children to .the gypsies or into Communism if they are so foolish. Hut nobody is going to mess around with my gun rights here in Iron County, Utah! Telling me I can have a gun but can't shoot it safely when and where I desire is like telling me I can be a Mormon but can't go to meetings or bear my testimony or discuss doctrine! Any persons interested in nipping this local gun control law Traveling Assembly PA ROW AN - Miss Holly Robinson vice president of PHS, has announced that SUSC will present a traveling assembly to students and townspeople on Thursday morning Jan. 23 at 9 a.m. Miss Robinson has contacted many high schools and colleges in an effort to bring programs to the school and several more are scheduled for later in the year. in the bud should appear before the County Commissioners and unitedly voice their disapproval. That failing, please join nie in initiating a restraining order against their action. I had presumed this night hunting business would die a natural death months ago, but. since it hasn't, a show of determined force is now necessary Remember the bumper slocker "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!"
