Show Salt Lake attorney to chair Education Board "The Board recognizes the need to increase the productivity productiv-ity and effectiveness of dollars invested in education," Donald B. Holbrock, Salt Lake City attorney, at-torney, told members of the State Board of Higher Education Educa-tion following his election as chairman at a meeting held at Southern Utah State College Wednesday. The new chairman, elected at. the board meeting, cited the many problems facing the board in a new era of challenge. chal-lenge. He pointed out the leveling lev-eling off of student enrollment and the rapidly shrinking assistance as-sistance provided toy federal funding. "Considering these complexities complex-ities and the rapid changes through which higher education educa-tion now must pass, there is a constant need to keep the citizenry citi-zenry of the state, faculties, students, alumni, and the legislature leg-islature aware of what is happening," hap-pening," he stated. He stressed that it would "require more, not less, imput from all facets of our community. My first order or-der of priority will be just that, improving communications." He concluded his remarks indicating his belief that through the system "I see the hope for meeting the financial challenges . . . Through organized organ-ized effort we can assure fiscal responsibility and hopefully demonstrate to all that which has made our colleges and universities un-iversities great will continue to flourish." He previously served ser-ved on the Board of Regents of the University of Utah. Born in Utah and educated in Salt Lake schools the new chairman is a practicing attorney attor-ney and a managing partner of a major law firm in Salt Lake City. George C. Hatch was elected vice chairman of the board with Peter W. Billings, retiring chairman, Charles E. Peterson, and Bruce Stuck! of St. George named to the boards executive committee. |
