Show Soil tests, blasts underway A geophysical team from the State Department of Transportation is in Cedar City this week conducting a series of special tests on Cedar City underground soil in the northeast portion of the community. The team will be conducting two traverses, east to west, for the purpose of determining special data regarding the depth of the bedrock, configeration of the bedroom and additional data on strata and type of bedrock. Bruce Kaliser, State Engineei Geologist in charge of the project for which Cedar City received special funding from the Four Corners Regions, indicated that the tranversers would be from the base of the mountains moun-tains on the east of the city main street One of the transverses would be just north of the residential area of Highland Park Subdivision -- or possibly within the subdivision. The second would be north of Parkway Ford on the north edge of the city. In addition to base information the geophysical team will provide necessary information to determine where core drillings will be made in the next phase of the study program. The testing being accomplished by the geophysical team this week includes in-cludes small explosive charges by r which vibrations are measured to identify underground strata. Kaliser suggested that the explosions ! are small and should not be felt in most cases, but if so residents should not be alarmed. The team will be working throughout the remainder of the week, Kaliser stated. |
