Show 4-H youth enjoy Summer Camp Iron County Younger Youth 4-H Camp was held 'July 11-12 at Deer Haven Campground. The morning of the 11th was spent putting up tents and preparing the camps and eating the lunches the participants had prepared. At 1:00 p.m. everyone assembled at the amphitheatre am-phitheatre for the flag raising ceremonies. Then came the election of the camp officials: Mayor: Russell Maxwell Mayorette: Robin Burbidge, and Scribe: Dorcas Adams. At 2:00 p.m. all were involved in-volved in volley ball, tether ball, horse-shoes, rock painting, lummi sticKs and log sawing, until 4 p.m. when everyone gathered for a "Water Follies" which was much wet fun! Group singing and skit presentation was held at 7 :30 p.m., after which there was a beautiful candle-lighting ceremony. It was then time to return to our tents and go to sleep for the night. On the 12th everyone rose bright and early to be at the amphitheatre by 7 a.m. for flag raising ceremonies and to start off another fun-filled day. From 9:3Q a.m. to noon, were more recreation, handicrafts, and practicing for the contests to come. At , noon, however, everything halted for lunch cooked over campfires. At 1:00 p.m. the contests began, with prizes being awarded at 3:30 p.m. in the following categories: Camp Identification; Personal Identification; Clean Camp; Cleanest Area; Skits; Lummi Sticks; Log Sawing; Rock painting; Dutch Oven; Nature Hunt and Volley Ball. Lynn Esplin, Log Sawing. 4-H Camp was really fun, and we encourage everyone to join 4-H Clubs for a fun and learning time. |
