Three new members of the Southern Utah State College Institutional Council were officially sworn in and officers of-ficers elected at the council's coun-cil's July meeting. Lucille Taylor, Spanish Fork, and Frank J. Petty, Cedar City, were sworn in for four-year terms on the ten-member council. Ann Jones, Cedar City, was sworn in for a one-year term C as an ex officio member. She is president of the SUSC Alumni Association. On July 15 Mrs. Taylor completed a term as president of the Utah Education Association; she will now serve on the UEA Board of Trustees as vice-president. vice-president. She is also serving ser-ving as the chairperson of the Utah County Democratic Party. Mrs. Taylor is a librarian at Spanish Fork High School where she has past experience ex-perience as a history and debate teacher. She received a BS in history and a MLIS in library science from Brigham Young University. She and her husband, Richard M. are the parents of six children. Petty is currently serving as the Cedar City Postmaster, Post-master, a position he has held for the past 13 years. He is a graduate of SUSC and has served three two-year terms as president of the SUSC Alumni Association since 1951. The new council member is very active in community service and church affairs. He is a member of a past president of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and of the Iron County Historical Society. In addition, he has been a member of the Cedar City Music Arts Committee for 21 years. His church activities include serving as Bishop of the Cedar 10th Ward. He and his wife, Wilma, a "SUSC alumna, are the parents of five children. Mrs. Jones attended SUSC in the mid 1950's, returning to earn her degree in elementary education in 1972. She served as vice-president vice-president elect of the SUSC Alumni Association prior to taking the reigns as president of the organization this July. She is active in church and civic organizations, having served as president and a member of the board of the North Elementary PTA, and as a member of the Cedar City PTA Council. She NEW MEMBERS. Recently sworn in as members of the SUSC Institutional Council are (left to right) Frank J. Petty, Mrs. Richard M. Taylor and Mrs. Larry Jones, president of the SUSC alumni council. teaches 4-H, is active in Reading Mothers programs, and works as a substitute teacher. She served in the primary presidency for the Cedar City 9th Ward and as APA President for the Cedar City 13th Ward. She and her husband, Larry, a 1956 SUSC graduate, have five children. In other action the Institutional In-stitutional Council reappointed reap-pointed Kumea S. Gardner, Cedar City, as chairman of the council. Gardner has served in that position since its inception in 1969. He was a member of the SUSC Board of Trustees prior to that time. Frank Petty was elected vice chairman of the council. Mr. Petty was also named chairman of the Academic and Student Affairs Com- mittee. Mrs. Loretta Cline, Salt Lake City, was appointed ap-pointed vice-chairperson of the committee. |
