Sandy Bryant and Lane Stobbe came out the big winners in the Cedar Spring Tennis Tourney held June 1 through 11 at the Cedar High Tennis Courts. Sandy teamed with John Teuteberg to win the mixed doubles title over Frank and Rina Stobbe, 6-3,6-0, and then joined with Lorene Lorene Sperry to add the womens's doubles crown, beating Rina and Julie Stobbe 6-2, 6-2. Lane Stobbe took the boys 14 singles title with a hard-fought hard-fought 6-1, 6-7, 6-2 victory over Neil Mathews, then teamed up with Mathews in taking the boys 16 doubles championship, with a come from behid win over Stuart Jones and David Gregerson 1-6, 7-5, 6-2. In that match, Stobbe and Mathews were down one set and 5-2 with 3o-love in the second set before they began thier comeback. It was a thrilling event to watch. Many observers said it was the finest doubles match they'd ever seen played in the area in a long while. It was marked by hot rallies at the net and excellent strategy by both teams before the final point was won by Kringlen and Carter. The big surprise of the tourney was the sensational play of 14 year old Ann Sundwall of Kanab. Ann played like a seasoned veteran and never lost more than a game per set in completely outlclassing the rest of the women's singles field She whipped Lorene Sperry in the final 6-1, 6-0. She showed a lot of promise and expects to be back to defend her title in further events this summer. - In the remaining events, Allen Stewart, Cedar High's top singles player, bested CHAMPS.
