Show t District formed, ambulance debated After deletions of two small streets originally within the planned district, the Cedar City Council authorized Thursday, the formation of a special improvement district consisting of sewer, water, and curb and gutter projects. Deleted from the district were 100 East as proposed, two small streets within the S. T. Nelson Subdivision and Gordon Smith properties, and a small Center Street, major portions of 900 West and west 200 South, will remain. The Council authorized the city engineer to call for bids at his con-' con-' venience. Ambulance service in Iron County was the topic of a status report given by Don Barnes, owner of Southern Cross Ambulance and Delbert Sperry, State Division of Health, Emergency Operations, both of whom stated a second ambulance is needed in the county. The Board of Iron County Commissioners and Parowan Mayor Kendall Gurr were also present as the problems of funding and managing of emergency services were discussed. The Council said the County Commissioners Com-missioners have the "responsibility of financing and managing ambulance service. But, if that is the only practical way to organize and manage an ambulance am-bulance service required that Cedar City become involved in a joint ben-ture, ben-ture, then the city would be willing to cooperate." In other action, a take-out beer license was granted to the new owners of the Outpost at the north city limits. Mrs. Diane Brown was appointed to fill a five year term on the City Board of Adjustments, and Paul Radmall and Gwen Sandberg were appointed to the Cedar City Library Board. All assignments will be effective July 1. The council said the background and years of service each has shown would qualify them for the assignments, ments. The Council made note of the Utah League of Cities and Towns Legislative Round-up to be held in Cedar City Friday, June 17. The meetings will be open to the public, although a fee is required. Representative Garth Jones and Senator Ivan Matheson will be featured speakers at certain sessions of the gathering. Items to be discussed deal with legislation passed by the recent legislature which directly or indirectly effects the operations of cities in the state. The meeting will be held on the ' campus of SUSC and will begin at 8:30 a. m. |
