Show Morton Metal hangs on to BL lead TEAM STANDINGS Morton Metal ...6 1 Cedar Prod ....4 : 3 BradshawChev 3 4 Mortensen Elec 1 6 Morton Metal has scratched their way to a two game lead in the Cedar City Big League, a baseball program for young men 16 through 18 years of age. Ironically the only loss sustained by Morton Metal came at the hands of Mortensen Electric of Parowan who handed them a 9-8 setback. It is the only win through Saturday's action for Mortensen. including a double and in his game Saturday night he collected three hits in three trips including a triple, double and single. Judd is undoubtedly the top extra base hitter in the league. In action this week Cedar Products will face Bradshaw Chevrolet Thursday evening. Cedar Products in second place has been lead on the mound by Steve Stoker who has a no-hit and a two-hit shutout to his credit this season. - ' He hurled both games against -Mortensen Electric. This past week Cedar Products defeated' Mortensen 7-0 with Stoker giving up two hits, collecting three hits in three hits plus a sacrifice fly. '' He had three RBI's in the con- a test. Three other RBI's came on"' a three run homer by David Middleton. Leading the hit parade for Morton Metal, the league leaders, is Tom Mace who has hit successfully in every game this season. He is hitting at an even .500 clip with 10 hits in 20 trips to the plate. His best effort was 4 for 4 against Mortensen in a game that Morton Metal lost 9-8. 9-8. One of the best pitching battles of the season was a 2-0 shutout by Kim Neilson over Cedar Products. Neilson gave up only two hits while his opponent David Middleton gave up only four hits in losing. For Bradshaw Chevrolet Charles Judd is the top stick with a .450 battling clip with nine hits in 20 trips to the plate. In his last two outings Judd had 2 for 3 |
