The Revolutionary fathers were so convinced and dedicated for the cause of freedom that they declared, "For the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor." Was it worth it? Total of fifty six men signed this document. For what? or, were they signing their death warrant? In fact, there were some who were doubtful about the outcome of the Revolution. It was not a death warrant. To me it was as if they were signing for the protection of my life, my liberty, and for my pursuit of happiness. Since many nations have followed the Declaration of Independence as a guide line in search for their freedom from the oppressive rules of kings and dictators. I believe Thomas Jefferson wrote this document keeping "Me" in mind, and I am from India. July the Fourth has opened up the doors wide open to all the inhabitant of the world for free thinking and free living for people of the whole world. I salute to the Fourth of July because it has made it possible for a guy like me to come to this country as a self-supporting student, receive University degrees, lecture in 42 states, teach in public schools for 26 years, and retire in peace in Parowan City where people are not only beautiful but they are very close to perfection per-fection in their behavior, attitude, and thinking. May the good Lord bless this country and shower her with all the strength and courage to do the right thing. Over the holidays some 500 people will be killed on the great network of our freeways and highways in our country. This is not, July the Fourth to me. It is great prophesy of John Adams fulfilled, who wrote to his wife, "It will be the great memorable epoch, In the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as a great anniversary Festival." How true it is even after 200 years. To me as if it is saying, "Proclaim liberty throughout all the land and to all . |
