Senator Garn sponsors Judgeship bill Senator Jake Garn (R-Ut) received a commitment that hearings will be held on his bill to strip Judge Willis Ritter of his chief judgeship. Over a year ago, Senator Garn introduced Senate Bill 1130 to remove the chief judgeship "grandfather clause" and require all federal district court judges to surrender their chief judgeship at age 70. "The only court in the United States that is affected by the grandfather clause is the U. S. District Court for the District of Utah," Senator Garn explained. "My bill would remove Judge Willis Ritter's chief judgeship. |
