Coach Ben Lindsey's squad is also ranked number eight in the latest NAIA NAIA Coaches' Poll. Southern Utah (14-3) strengthened its hold on second place with victories over Western State (91-66) and Mesa (74-52). Ft. Lewis (14-6) is third with Western New Mexico (11-5) in fourth. Adams State's Gregg Woodruff holds on to his scoring lead at 20.9 points per game while New Mexico Highlands' Steve Smith is right behind at 20.6. Herman Phillips of Southern Colorado is first in rebounding with a 10.8 per game average. Mesa's Robbie Chavez leads in assists with a 6.5 average. Shooting leaders are Jeff Rhodes of Colorado Mines in field goals (.694, 77-111) and Ft. Lewis' Ric Burris in free throws (76-82, .927). Southern Utah leads in winning margin ( 14.2) field goal percentage (.556), free throw percentage (.746), and team offense (88.8). Regis is first in team defense (63-8) while College of Santa Fe leads in team rebounding margin. (18.6). Top games on tap this week are Southern Utah at Regis (Friday), Western New Mexico at Mesa (Saturday), Southern Colorado at Ft. Lewis (Saturday), and Western New Mexico at Ft. Lewis (Monday). GARNERS HONORS. Ron Harrell, point guard for the SUSC was named player of the week by District 7 of the NAIA. He hit for 18 points in each of the two T-Bird wins. He is averaging 12.7 points per game on the season. |
