Provo defeated Dixie at St. George in action last week to drop the Flyers into a two-way two-way tie with American Fork for second place. Those three teams Provo, American Fork and Dixie - have cinched tournament berths and the fourth spot from Region Six is still up for grabs with Pleasant Grove holding the upper hand with a record of five wins and seven losses. Springville is next in the standings with a record of 5 wins and eight losses. "To win a tournament berth outright we will have to have six league wins," commented Coach John Neilson. That's a pretty tough assignment as the Redmen have four remaining games including away games at Provo, a game played Wednesday night-American Fork, and Timpview. The only remaining home game is against Pleasant Grove. Standings in Region Six prior to Wednesday actions was as follows: Provo 11 i Dixie . . ,...m)Ji, ,..,ift . 2 Am. Fork 10 2 Pleasant Grove 5 7 Springville 5 8 Timpview 4 8 Payson 4 9 Cedar 3 9 Spanish Fork 3 9 "With five wins we could still be in the running," Coach Neilsen stated. The way the league is set up there will be no playoffs for the fourth spot. If two teams tie the team with the best record will be selected. If the records are such as a win and loss against each other-the other-the selection will be made by drawing. "All we can do is our best," Neilsen stated. "We , will be working hard to win a tournament berth. But win or lose we feel that the teams as given its best throughout the season," he concluded. |
