In 1960 the pupil-teacher ratio in Utah was 27.2 but last year the figure dropped to 21.5, which in dollar figures fig-ures cost the state an additional addi-tional $8,905,260 for the additional addi-tional 11,731 teachers required to fill the classroom needs. The cost to the state is further projected in capital improvements that were required re-quired to create the additional addition-al classrooms brought about by the reduction in the classroom class-room teacher-pupil ratio. Estimated Est-imated construction costs of the additional classroom was $66,176 each for a total of $77,095,040, or nearly nine times more than the increased payrolls. This is a combined cost of $86 million which means that 22 percent of all capital outlay spending since 1960 has been caused by the |
