Show UC Employees back on job; wait new talks Workers at U;an Construction Construc-tion and Mining Company op-perations op-perations west of Cedar City were back on the job Tuesday afternoon after a brief shutdown shut-down during the day. Picketts appeared at the operations op-erations Tuesday morning a sufficient number of men were not available to operate Tuesday's first shift, according accord-ing to G. A. The brief picket ting was brought about when members of the Operating Engineers' Local No. 3, Teamster Local No. 222 and Laborers Local No. 79, voted not to accept a proposal presented to them jointly by Union officials and representatives of the company. com-pany. The contract would replace the three year contract under which the men have been working for tho past three years, which terminated May 31. Wren a contract had no been signed by June 1 the picketting Tuesday apparently apparent-ly resulted. However, employees met Tuesday afternoon and work was resumed under terms of the old contract Tuesday evening; Banks indicated. Th3 mine manager further indicated indicat-ed that it was his understanding understand-ing that the men would remain re-main on the job until such time as additional negotiation negotia-tion agreements could be proposed pro-posed and considered. The proposed new contracts presented jointly by union officials of-ficials and the company were rejected by the membership of the thre0 union curly last j week. |
