Show l ,!':''' i1 'MSG JOHN R. PHILLIPS Phillips retires after 30 years in Army Master Sergeant John R. Phillips, who has served for the past three and one-half years as an advisor to the Utah National Guard located in Cedar City, has retired after af-ter more than 30 years of service ser-vice with the U. S. Army. MSG Phillips was presented the Army commendation medal med-al First Oak Leaf Cluster at a retirement ceremony held in Salt Lake City May 27. The 30 year veteran of military mil-itary service entered the Army in January 1941 and has had continuous service. He was originally assigned to the 2d Horse Cavalry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas and remained with the unit until it was disbanded. dis-banded. He was then assigned to the 83rd Infantry Division Camp and accompanied the Division to Europe where he served in the capacity of First Sergeant until the end of World War II. Throughout his career he has had seven tour of duty overseas including assignments assign-ments in Germany, Italy, Belgium, Bel-gium, Holland, Luxemburg, Austria, France, England, Janpan, Korea and Vietnam. He nas amassed an extensive ex-tensive number of honors over his 30 years service. He has been awarded the Combat Infantry In-fantry Badge, Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Con-duct Medal with Silver Bar, American Defense Medal, European Eur-opean Theater Medal with five campaign stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupation Occupa-tion Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal Med-al with two campaign stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with year bar. In addition he has been cited for five years of outstanding out-standing performance of duty while assigned at the University Uni-versity of Missouri as Principal Princi-pal Drill Instructor in Military Mili-tary Science. The Phillips plan to travel extensively before establishing establish-ing a permanent residence.
