Show Cedar City to host National Field Archery tourney in July CV '.sr City has been select -" ! :'s fie site for the 2Gth An-""'.V. An-""'.V. National Field Archery Ti.urnamont which is expected to draw upwards of 600 participants par-ticipants from throughout the nation. Leo Cahoon has been selected se-lected by the host Cedar City Chamber of Commerce to serve as general chairman of the event which will be held Tuesday, July 27 through Thursday, July 2d, on two course. to be constructed in the Cedar mountain area. Tournament course site will include "Mitchell Sawmill" located on the Dixie National Forest near Cedar Breaks Na tional Monument 21 miles east of Cedar City. Daryll Schramm, executive secretary of the Chamber, indicated in-dicated that six 23-target courses will need -to be constructed con-structed for the national event. ev-ent. In addition campground, food, water and sanitary facilities fac-ilities will have to be arranged arrang-ed for the three-day event. Assisting with the arrangements arrange-ments will be the Ats Queo Archery Club who will 'construct 'con-struct the archery courses. Civic organizations of the community will be asked to assist with other projects. Last year's tournament was held at Aurora, 111. with over COO participants. In past years half of the participants have been campers and others have used motel accomodations. It is anticipated that all cf Cedar Ce-dar City's motels will be filled and nearby facilities will be used such as Brian Head Resort, Re-sort, Navajo Lake, Cedar Breaks Lodge, Meadeau View Chateau Lodge and others. Usually the tournament is a five day affair but due to its location this year in such a scenic area, the tournament has been compacted into three days so participants will have time to do some sightseeing. Utah Parks Company Is arranging ar-ranging special tours for the group to Bryce and Zion National Na-tional Parks. Evening camp-fire camp-fire programs will be presented pre-sented by the National Parks Service, U.S. Forest Service, and the State Department of Wildlife Resources. Cedar City has been spotlighted spot-lighted for the last four months in NFAA's official magazine "ARCHERY" which is distributed monthly to its 30,000 plus members. Mail inquiries in-quiries from all over the United Un-ited States have been received at the Chamber office for information in-formation on Cedar City and the surrounding area. "If this year's tournament in Cedar City proves to be successful, it is possible that we could be considered as the Western permanent site with the tournament being held every third year in our area," Schramm stated. |
