Show it i ROLLO-glyphics One point we should not miss is; under the present law you and I have the right to do with our property whatever we desire. There are those who wish to get us to give them the right to decide what we can and cannot do with our own property. Under the present law, Southern Utah has grown because be-cause people from without wanted to come in. They have been given the opportunity to purchase part of our area. As time goes on this condition will stimulate our area more and more. If we were under an agrarian agrar-ian economy solely, the price for yours and my land would still be $1.00 $100.00 per acre ac-re Instead of $250 . $400 per acre we now enjoy. It is also interesting to note that there are more subdivision subdivis-ion lot owners in Iron County than there are residence families. fam-ilies. And to those who are leary of the outsider moving in and taking over, all we have to do is point out the water laws in Utah. People from California, Nevada and other places like to come to Utah to visit, hunt and fish. Owning property here is a sense- of security to them. Most people only dream of retiring here. Lets face it, the big advantage of our area is the low income and lack of jobs. . We all talk about getting more and more of the tourist dollar. If that is our goal, let What a send off I gave to the three elected city council-men council-men in last week's Record. For j those of you who still have that issue kicking around I draw your attention to the pictureat least that's what its supposed to be on the front page of the swearing in ceremony. I defy you to identify Gordon Gor-don Slack or Mayor Whetten. " I didn't really mean to infer 1 that the councilment and the ,' mayor were that much in the j "dark." '. It was a series of circum- stances that resulted in the 1 poor reproduction. In the first place the photographer made i the mistake of taking the pic- ture with windows in the I background with a strong back lighting. The light from the windows counteracted against the flash and left the ' picture rather flat at the out-set. out-set. Sounds good up to this j point doesn't it? : Secondly the engraver has J to share some of the fault ; since the picture was processed process-ed with other pictures with higher contrast and as a result re-sult the lesser contrast of that particular picture was minimized mini-mized result poor work all the way around. This plot is really thickening, i The final confession of the day is the hardest of all to put down in Mack and white. You noticed I blamed the photographer and the engraver engrav-er for the results. Alas I'm both the photographer and engraver in this instance. My apologies to all of you, us not slap the hand that feeds us. Let's not get blown "t'o and fro with every kind of doctrine"; but let's stay on firm ground. I suggest before the editor jumps on anyones bandwagon and prints something for someone again, under his name, he ought to look into it a little closer and make sure the facts are straight. We who read his article don't want him to come under criticism for something such as this again. My only comment is that I'm not on anybody's bandwagon. band-wagon. I have to admit that the thoughts were entirely my own. As for criticism I don't mind it, and I expect that despite des-pite your good wishes I will be critized again In the future. Thanks for your comments. . CT w V especially you readers. It's always good to get response, res-ponse, good or bad. Following Follow-ing is a response to one of my columns, and I reprint it here for your interest. This is an answer to an article art-icle that appeared under this byline 2 weeks ago on the subject sub-ject of tax delinquent subdivision subdiv-ision lots. It is suggested that a relatively rela-tively high proportion of the delinquencies come from subdivisions sub-divisions because promotors are anxious to "turn a buck" and dont care to whom they sell. 'I here invite the Editor to do a little addition on tax delinquency delin-quency rolls the dollar value of the out of state delinquencies delinquenc-ies runs about $3,000.00; . the in-state delinquencies runs in excess of $30,000.00 (one tenth the dollar value in favor of subdivisions). A check with the Iron County Coun-ty Treasurer finds his official feeling is not against the owners of subdivision lots, but against the procedural method of getting the tax notice to the new owner the first year around. |
