Show New Gustive 0. Larson book picked most significant of Mormon history University of California at Lo.s Angeles. A new book by Professor Gustivp O. Larson of Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University, and formerly of Cedar City, "The Americanization of Utah for Statehood," was recently chosen chos-en b ythe Mormon History Association As-sociation as the most significant signifi-cant book iii the field of Mormon Mor-mon History to appear in 1971. This citation was made at a recent meeting of the Mormon History Association held at Santa Fe, N. M. "We congratulate you on the publication of this excellent treatise which is an enduring contribution to the study of Mormon history," stated the selection committee. The volume, with a vivid and well documented narrative, narra-tive, was published by the Huntington Library Press, Los Angeles. Prof. Larson spent three years researching the book in state libraries, the Library Li-brary of Congress, Huntington Hunting-ton and Bancroft Libraries in California, and Yale and Princeton Libraries. "In the early days the Mormons Mor-mons did things differently and when it came time for statehood they had to adjust," the history professor said. A prolific writer, he has published several books, including in-cluding "Outline History of Utah and the Mormons," which is the textbook for the Utah History Classes at BYU. He also has written over 60 articles for magazines, ' journals, jour-nals, and lesson manuals. He received the B. A. and M.
