Show Kick-off for Color Country Classic near Thursday, Jan. 20, but the big kickoff for the concentrated concen-trated nine days of activities will be Saturday, Jan. 22. Skiing, ice hockey, open skating, snowmobiling, torch-, torch-, light parades, special con-I con-I certs, demonstrations, snow shoe races are just a few of the events to be planned. A complete agenda of the nine day classic will be listed in next week's Iron County Record. Many skiing events will be featured during the celebration celebra-tion including a ski demonstration demon-stration and trick skiing under un-der the direction of Georg Hartlmaier. Residents have been invited to participate in the special races and other skiing events such as Uie torchlight slalom and cross country races. A contest is also being held to name the new ski run at Brian Head with a special award for the winner. A cou pon to enter that contest is contained in this issue of the record on page eight of this section. The coordinated program of events and activities utilise all of the major organizations in the area and brings together, togeth-er, in concentrated form, nine days of fun and entertainment entertain-ment designed for young and old, Walunas Indicated. Nine days of continuous winter 1 sports activities are in store for residents and visitors to the southern Utah area during the annual Color Country Winter Classic to be staged January 22 through January 30. Ski races, trick skiing and demonstrations, snowmobile races, the second annual snow shovel races, music entertainment and dancing, queen pageant, plus numerous numer-ous other events are being planned for the Classic ac-caring ac-caring to Art Walunas, chairman of the event for 1972. A special prize is also being be-ing offered in connection with the classic. A 1972 RTX-310 RTX-310 Skir Roule Snowmobile with Trailer will be given away as a special award on the concluding day, January 30. Several groups and organizations organ-izations are combining to sponsor the events including the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce, Southern Utah State College, Parowan Chamber of Commerce and Brian Head Ski Resort. The majority of the events will be staged at Brian Head but other special events are being planned in Cedar City, I Parowan and on the SUSC Campus. Events of the Winter Wint-er Classic are being tied into in-to Winter Carnival activities on the SUSC campus which will actually be kicked off with a Queen's Pageant on the SUSC campus on Tuesday, Tues-day, Jan. 13. All events throughout the area will tie into the Color Country Classic, Walunas stated.
