Show Iron County School Board acts on matters prior to school starting At the meeting of the Board of Education of the Iron County Coun-ty School District Monday bids were received and contracts awarded for supply of coal for the schools of the district during dur-ing the coming year, and for supplying milk for the school system. The board also approved ap-proved purchase of . several equipment items, heard reports re-ports on several matters, and approved a telephone exchange ex-change program between Summit Sum-mit parents and their child- Parowan, since it requires a long distance call to make contact. The Summit students will begin attending Parowan schools this year, and this is expected to create the need for telephone contact on occasion, occa-sion, ynder the program the district will meet the cost of necessary calls from parents to students, and also the cost of calls from students to parents, par-ents, when thsy are approved by the school administration at the school. The board received notice from the Federal Communications Communica-tions Commission that approval approv-al had been given for the establishment es-tablishment of an FM radio system at the school. Approval was given for the ren while they are at school in Parowan. Three bids were received for supplying coal for the district, and the contract awarded to the low bidder, Sevier Valley Coal Company of Salina, providing pro-viding a satisfactory delivery schedule can be worked out. The Salina company bid was $8.90 per ton. Boyd Anderson of Salina submitted a bid of $9.72 per ton, and the Browning Brown-ing Coal Company of Emery, made a bid of $9.90 per ton. Only one bid was submitted for supplying milk, Arden Dairy, with a bid of 6',a cents per half pint with staws, and the contract was awarded on this basis. The Board agreed to undertake under-take a telephone exchange between Summit parents and students attending school in purchase of three new heat units to be installed on the top floor of the West Building of Cedar Junior High School, also to purchase a combination unit at the bus garage for washing cars and cleaning motors, an(i the purchase of carpeting for an additional room at the Escalante Valley school. After considerable discussion discus-sion the Board agreed to continue con-tinue with the present Public Health Nursing program in connection with the county and state with the assurance that needed changes in services ser-vices be made. A report was made that salary sal-ary negotiations between teachers and the district are continuing between represent, atives of the Iron County Education Edu-cation Association salary committee com-mittee and board representatives, representa-tives, but no particular progress pro-gress was reported at this time. It was reported that the Sex Education Study Committee is continuing with Its work and will probably be' prepared to fie a report at the regular August Au-gust meeting of the Board. Following a discussion of school lunch costs, a decision was reached to make further study before action is taken. |
