Show Redmen wrestlers lose to Dixie Flyers are favored over Kanab and Milford After winning the first four matches and building up a 16-0 lead in team points, the Cedar High School Redmen wrestling team fell apart to lose to the Flyers of St. George 31-21 in a match in St. George Thursday evening. It was the second loss to the Flyers this season and was one that Coach John Pensis felt at the outset that he could win. Kevin Betenson started things off for the Redmen with a decision over his man in the 98 pound class. That was followed by a pin by Craig Rollo, a decision by Bob Laird and a pin by Kevin Taysom to build up that 16 point lead. Only other match victory for the Redmen was Jerry Lynch at 183 who picked up a pin to raise the Rodmen to 21 points. The Flyers, however, picked up five pins and a pair of decisions de-cisions to take the team victory. vic-tory. One of the big upsets for the Redmen was the loss by a one point decision for Mike Sherratt at 167. Athough he had his man in a near pin position at the final buzzer, he lost valuable points in the early action and suffered his first loss of the season. This week the Redmen tangled with Milford in "a' match held at the Cedar High gymnasium Wednesday afternoon after-noon and this evening, Thursday, Thurs-day, take on Kanab at 7 p.m. in a league match. The Redmen are expected to pick up a pair of team victories victor-ies in the outing having already al-ready taken the measure of Kanab at Kanab and earlier in the season. The grapplers for Cedar High are working hard for the Region matches which will bring together both north and south division in action in St. George. First and second place winners win-ners at Region will advance on to state competition, Pen-sis Pen-sis stated. |
