Show Freeway access road, airport and new culinary well are city topics right-of-way, and that there is a slight curve in the road. The survey shows that the center line of the right-ofway is just abouth on the south edge of that road, we are told by Mayor Gurr. We are also told that the right-of-way in the lane reaches slightly inside in-side of the present fence line and may necessitate moving the fence back to the south. In the meantime, Mr. Rowley Row-ley was instructed to make a cross section survey of the roadway right away so that initial work can get underway under-way soon. At the last meeting of the Parowan City Council another discusion was held on the zoning request for a change in the area near the city hydro hy-dro plant. Protestants were Kenyon Robinson and Elwood Trimmer, but Orville Isom, city attorney, with the help of the city ordinances explained to those on hand that the location lo-cation of a lumber and hardware hard-ware business could not be placed in a light commercial area and the entire problem was resolved this way. Owing to the failure of the B & B Drilling Co. of Beaver to meet its contract for drilling drill-ing a well for the city, the council cancelled its agreement agree-ment with B & B and made a new agreement with Henry Grimshaw, driller, of Enoch. The latter agreed to drill th well, to be located in the old roller mill canyon, during the month of February at a cost of not more than $27 per foot, cased in a 16-inch pipe. One of the important items of business considered was the instigation of immediate construction work on the access ac-cess road in the Holyoak Lane to connect Parowan City with the second or west interchange as it crosses the valley. It was reported to the council coun-cil that an appropriation of $2000 had come to Parowan City from the airports fund of Iron County. Mayor Gurr states that this amount added ad-ded to a fund in excess of $8,000 already availble, is to be used this spring for improvements im-provements at the airport. Mayor Gurr also informs us that the State Aeronautics will now match this amount to made permonent improvements improve-ments there, and we are told that the available funds will be used, as far as they will reach for surfacing one lane of the airport runway. He also adds that if the work is to be done this year it must be contracted by June 1. This road is to be constructed construct-ed as a joint undertaking of Parowan City and Iron County Coun-ty and the county is anxious to get its equipment at work on the project before having to move it to other projects. A preliminary survey made by Robert Rowley, engineer, shows that the center line of the present road in the lane is not the center line of the , In a meeting on Tuesday of last week of Parowan City officials and representatives of Calif.-Pacific Power Co., a discussion was had regarding improved power service to Parowan residents. The power pow-er company wheels the power Parowan City buys from the Glen Canyon plant to us over their lines. Numerous power outages have occurred over recent years, and the city requested request-ed that the company improve or rebuild the line into our area. The city suggested that the power company install a substation along the 138,000 volt line which runs through the valley, and build a line from it to service area residents. resi-dents. Parowan officials suggested that the Parowan Valley station sta-tion could be used to service the entire valley area. , This proposal was unacceptable unaccep-table to the power company, on the grounds that our needs for power just doesn't justify the cost of such an undertaking. undertak-ing. They countered with a proposal to improve the present pres-ent lines to our city with a partion to be rebuilt this season sea-son and the rest next year. |
