Show City goes ahead on improvement district ers at the municipal ball parks and the erection of a portion of fencing needed : in connection with , the driving range being developed at the Painted Hills Golf Course. i In a cooperative agreement with Iron County the Council approved the conversion of the heating system at the city and county building to oil. A public hearing was set up for August 10 at 7:30 p.m. to consider a recommendation from the City Planning Commission Com-mission to rezone an area between be-tween 100 and 200 East Street south -from Center street from residential to Commercial The area would, incorporate the Southern Utah Mortuary and its parking facilities. .. , Tentative approval of a one mill increase for a Special Improvement Im-provement District was approved ap-proved by the Cedar City Council at their meeting Thursday evening. Total levy was set at 26.8 mills, one mill higher than the previous year. Broken down, the levy includes 20.3 mills for general fund, one mill for special improvement district and 5.5 mills for bond redemption. According to City Manager, Arnold Anderson, preliminary engineering and planning have indicated that the Improvement Im-provement District is feasible and a final decision is expect, ed on August 8 when the Council will hear final reports. Should the Improvement District prove unfeasible and not be accepted by the council coun-cil the additional mill levy would be dropped, he indicated. indicat-ed. The Council also authorized a .portion of the street oiling program for 1970. Approved was two inch mulching of Al-timira Al-timira Drive from the existing oil to 300 East; oiling of all roadways ' in the Cedar City cemetery and the oiling of Paradise Canvon RoaH. whieh an emergency c-ess load leading to .me vaney View Medical Center. Council authorized the hiring hir-ing of Roger Bagley to the Cedar Ce-dar City Police Department but also accepted the resigna. tion of Harold Bradley. Bagley will replace Terry Lofthouse who left to accept employment in Arizona. Bradley resigned to enter private business in Cedar City. Anderson indicated that the city will accept additional applications to fill the new vacancy. The Council was also informed in-formed at the meeting that a federal grant in the amount of $15,900 had been granted Cedar City for the purpose of perfecting a master plan. Under the terms of the grant the city must complete the Master Planning during the current fiscal year. Council further took under consideration a proposal by the State Aeronautical Board, to upgrade the East -West run-way run-way at the Municipal Airport. The project, independent from the major improvement being considered at the Airport, Air-port, would include the laying lay-ing of a two inch mat 75 feet wide and 5200 feet long. In regards to the major improvements improve-ments Anderson indicated that representatives of the State Aeronautical Board, the FAA, would 'meet with representatives representa-tives of Cedar City and Iron County regarding the extension exten-sion and upgrading of the north-south runway on July 27. Council heard a report of the completion of repairs on basin No. 3 of the Green's Lake Watershed project; authorized auth-orized the calling for bids for the painting of the city culinary cul-inary system water tanks; approved ap-proved the leasing of property proper-ty to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, for parking purposes, subject to cancellation and approved two projects for the Upward Bound Program at Southern Utah State College. Upward Bound projects will include the painting of bleach- |
