The m enlisted men and trr officers of Hqs. and Hqs. Battery. 2d. Battalion, 222d Artillery of the iUtah National Guard, stationed j in Cedar City, will U leaving on June 13 for the annual summer encampment at Camp W. G. Williams. Wil-liams. Ranked for the past two years as the artillery unit with the het overall performance in the U tah National Guard, the O-dar City unit has won an cnviablo place in the -state wide organiza- tion. j For the past two years the ! Guardsmen of Cedar City were accorded the General Hummel Award, which is presented for 'outstanding performance by an artillery unit and have won a i siHipei 'or rating by the annual Army General Inspector for (he past two years as well. The battery is commanded by Captain James M. Miller. In addition to proficiency In its military tactics the unit has also played an important part in community life as well. Each year at Christmas time the Guard 'unit has taken on a project of j providing toys for some IKI to l.'id needy children in the area. Funds for the toys are provided through contributions of th? 1 guardsmen and by members of the Battalion Staff, which is also located in Cedar City. In addition the guard unit provides pro-vides each year a local and statewide state-wide Bantam Basketball program for young athletes. This past year, following the regular league program, a team from the Cedar City league won its way into third place In the state-wide competition.
