Show High School Grads Honored flt Closing Rites Activities for 156 Cedar City High School students were climaxed clim-axed Friday night with graduation gradua-tion exercises, the final dance of the season and a graduation par- The graduates were exhorted by student speakers Steve Smith and Roma Melling to think for themselves In meeting future problems, pro-blems, to play their full part in community and national life, meeting each task to the best of each one's ability, to take the lead in constructive activities rather than to become a part of violence by following the action of radical demonstrators, and to do everything possible to help others rather than strive always for personal gain. Consider Future The graduates were also urged by guest speaker Craig Jones, College of Southern Utah Professor Profes-sor and graduate of Cedar City High School, to . insider carefully careful-ly their future actions, to set definite de-finite goals and strive constantly to attain those goals, to seek addition ad-dition .? knowledge at all time, whetri they continue on to col- cause Knowledge, no matter how attained, becomes the most Important Im-portant factor In what success they r.iay gain. With a strong educational foundation gained in high school, he maintained, each should be able to continue to learn and become educated if real effort is put forth in whatever what-ever field the indivdual graduate gradu-ate may follow. Following the exercises graduates, grad-uates, parents and friends luiuKi-ed luiuKi-ed together at a dance and social hour, after which the graduates gathered at the Elks Lodge for a graduation party that had been arranged through cooperation of the senior class and the Parent-Teacher Parent-Teacher Association. Refreshments Refresh-ments were served, prizes furnished furn-ished by individuals and firms were distributed, dancing was i enjoyed and farewells exchanged at a delightful, dignified and i? happy gathering. Commencement Events I Prior to the graduation exercises exer-cises the students had participated participat-ed in numerous other final activities, activ-ities, including the girls' graduation gradua-tion breakfast held at the school Tuesday morning, the annual awards assembly, and tho distribution distri-bution of yearbooks, depicting the activities of the year. At the awards assembly 40 members of the senior class of !71 received activity Awards as the result of an accumulation of points for extra curricular activ-ites activ-ites In music, athletics, student government, publications, organization organ-ization leadership, drama, and other fields over their years as students of Cedar High. Also a total of 22 scholarships were awarded students for institutions insti-tutions of higher learning in recognition rec-ognition of outstanding accomplishments accom-plishments In various fields of endeavor, assuring the recipients the opportunity of continuing their education. Most of the class, club and organization or-ganization closing activities, and Seminary graduation exercises, had been completed during the prev ious week. |
