Show Highway Accident Victim Succumbs in Hospital The death Sunday in the Iron County Hospital of Mrs. Phoebe Robinson, 80, who succumbed as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident Just south of Parowan on January 2, brought the county death toll on the highways since Jan. 1, to five. Mrs. Robinson, who resides in Butte, Montana and Wlckenberg, Arizona, was enroute from her Montana home to Arizona when the accident occured. Cause of the accident which hospitalized the three occupants of the south bound automobile, was contributed contri-buted to a faulty trailer hitch which broke lose. The resulting swerving of the trailer tipped the car over. Injuring, in addition to Mrs. Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. Byron By-ron Howard Goodell of Wlckenberg, Wlcken-berg, Arizona. Four other lives on Highway 91 within the Iron County borders were snuffed out in a tragic accident ac-cident on Buckhorn Flat in a 11:00 p.m. head-on collision. This accident occured on Sunday, Jan. 8. Still in the Iron County Hospital Hos-pital as a result of these two accidents are four people with two remaining In a critical condition. con-dition. Mr. and Mrs. Goodell are presently listed in "very good" condition while two victims vic-tims of the most recent accident remain critical. The five death toll of Iron County through January 17 Is most appalling, according to Highway Patrol officials. For the same period of time in 1955 the county had recorded no deaths on the highway. For the entire year of 1955 the death toll reached reach-ed only 9. Now only slightly better than halfway through the first month of the year the death toll has reached more than half that of (he entire 1955 year. For the same period of time on a state-wide basis, 14 fatalities have occured in January of this year compared to eight for the same length of time in 1955. |
