Show Clark Launches Pro Career Saturday Night Saturday evening, Jan. 4, 1958 will be a turning point for a prominent amateur from Cedar City, LaMar Clark, who will appear ap-pear in his first professional boxing bout of his career. Clark will be ma'ched with John Hicks of Flagstaff, Ariz. In six three-minute rounds. Handling Clark on his profes-sional profes-sional venture will be Marv Jensen, Jen-sen, Utah's No. 1 manager who handles Gene Fullmer, one-time holder of the middleweight crown and also Rex Layne, of national prominence In the hea-j vywelght division. On hand for the Saturday card will be Gene Fullmer. Fullmer, I conender now for the middleweight middle-weight crown, has consented to referee the bouts Saturday night, with the exception of the main I event Fights will ge under way at 8 p. m. at the Coll-ge of Southern South-ern Utah fieldhouse. Saturday afternoon a spec'al dinner will be held honoring Marv Jensen and his wife. Fullmer Full-mer and his wife, and LaMar, It was announced today by Mayo "Spike" Bybee, promoter for the event Appearing in the semi-main even will be Austin Bullets, Cedar Ce-dar city against another West Jordan man, Ray Mosser, This will also be a six-round event. Four other bouts will be scheduled sched-uled for the evening with such men as Wilford Jake, Cedar City; C. R. Griffith, Fredonia and CSU; Scott McKnight, Minersville; Johnny Zuniga, Cedar Cl'y. and Andrew Richards of Richfie'.d, and Jim Neilson, New Harmony. Youngsters who will appear on the card include Tommy Brock-meler, Brock-meler, Kenny Orton, Michael Hansen, Ronnie Anderson and Dennis Marchant. The card is being sponsored Jointly by the Cedar City Elks Lodge No. 1556 and the College of Southern Utah athletic department. |
