Coach Cleo Petty announced this week plans for a two-game s ries this week-end against the Parowan all-stars. They will play this evening, Thursday, at 'he CSU fieldhouse with game time set for 8 p. m and from all Indications In-dications they will move to Parowan Paro-wan for a game tentatively ar ranged for G p. m. S-aturday. Tht early hour has been set to avoir! conflict with the CSU-Elks sponsored spon-sored boxing card that evening. Parowan All-stars feature soni fine former CSU talent. Handling the rroup Is David Orton anf Included on the squad are ric Clai!i and John Wood, all former form-er CSU boys. In addition they have Donal Stubbs, Kent Whitney, Whit-ney, Rodney Bentley and Gle Stolk, all former Parowan Ram players. Following this series the Broncos Bron-cos will be working hard for tht conference openers. CSU In pre-conference play wound up with a poor one win six lost record. Single wir against collegiate competition was against Phoenix Junior College, Col-lege, 59 to 54 in the first home appearance. They had previously posted a win over an alumni team in a 60-minute game, 90 I to ti2. Bronco scoring punch has been way below average. In the sevpn game series they have scored an average of 54.7 points pvr game. Coach Petty will be attempting attempt-ing to sharpen up the defense of the Broncos along with the offensive offen-sive punch li the nine days remaining re-maining before the ICA Conference Confer-ence play gets under way. Over the holidays an addition has been made to the Bronco squad, Petty indicaed This addi-tlon addi-tlon Is one of Nevada's outstanding outstand-ing high school stars of two years ago. It is Jimmy Rice, now of Moab and formerly of Lincoln High school of Panaca. Rice Is transferring from Brlgham young University where he was a member mem-ber of the Cat's freshman basketball bas-ketball squad last season. The speed and shoo'ing ability of rt'.ce should be an aid to the tuain. Petty pointed out. This addition brings the squad strength to 14 men. Prior to conference con-ference play Coach Petty lndica1-ed lndica1-ed that he may make one more cut to his originally intended squad of 12 men. All In all the Broncos will have to show a considerable improvement im-provement in the next two weeks to be a contender in the ICAC this season. |
