Show Cedar Casabites Increase Prestige With Victories Over White Pine High The Cedar City Redmen return-, ed from Ely, Nev., late Saturday! evening with two more victories' added to their pre-season record rec-ord which finished up with a good seven won and two lost record. Sixth victory of the season over White Pine Friday evening did not come easy, however. They were forced into a third overtime period before they finally fi-nally won by a two-point margin 46 to 44. Saturday the Redmen had it all their own way as they broke fast and hit a phenomenally high percentage of their shots for a final 63 to 32 victory over the same club. , For the two-night stand the Cedar rnd .White Pine Junior varsity squads tangled in preliminary pre-liminary events. The Kedmen JV's cm up with a victory in the opening game 30 to 27 but dropped drop-ped the Saturday evening contest by a score of 48 to 39. Friday evening the Redmen had to come from behind in two of three over'imes to remain in the game, then with the game all tied up at 44-all and seconds to go, Boyd Dover stole the ball and dribbled half the length of the" court for a final counter and the 46 to 44 victory. The game ended 36 to 36 after a hard gought regulation tiiru with the lead changing handt often. In the first overtime per iod the White Pine Bobcats mov ed out in front by four points with the Redmen bouncing back and tying It up at 40-all when Eric Gardner, high scorer for the evening, dropped in two foul pitches with Just seconds again remaining in the period. White Pine again took the lead in the second overtime period, a margin of two points and the Redmen again fought back with a desperation hook shot by Weston Wes-ton Ki'chen tying the game up at 42-all to keep the flame alive. White Pine tied It up and was In con'rol of the ball when Dover stole it on a two-on-one situation and went in for the winning basket. Saturday evening the Kedmen Jumped out into an early lead with a 10 point margin, 17 to 7 at the first rest period. Early in the second period the Kedmen moved to a 15 point margin and they continued to spread the margin between the two clubs. Gardner again led the scoring with 20 points and Travis Nelson working in the post turned in an outstanding performance as well as getting 13 points. Dover, who led the rebounding for the ! Redmer., was next to high ln both contests, tanking 12 Friday, night and 18 Saturday evening.! Neil Tetty set the pace for he Redmen Saturday night, moving them into an early lead with three quick field goals from the side of the key. They never broke that pace. The Redmen ended up the first evening of play with a shooting percentage of 32C. They hit for only 20 in the first half and upped the percentage to 44 in the second period and overtimes. over-times.
