Show Indian Branch Self-Growth Program Noted With the growth of the Indian Branch and the many activities of various organizations, there has come a need for more room. When the little chapel was built five or six years ago, the planners plan-ners would not forsee the change that could come over this little band of people. With the help and guidance of many devoted leaders, the members have caught the spirit of progress of self-Improvement, and are trying to the best of their ability to become be-come an acceptable people. When the chapel was built It was done almost soley by the white members mem-bers of the church and the cost was entirely borne by.the church. The Indians themselves contributed contrib-uted nothing to the cost of materials ma-terials and only a few hours of labor. What great changes In the attitude at-titude and thinking of this people peo-ple have taken place Is shown in the fact that a year ago they contributed their money and over 1400 hours of labor In building their recreation area. Now they are contributing to the new additions ad-ditions that must be made to their chapel. While the church will stand most of the cost of materials, the Indian members and trying to raise $1000 themselves them-selves by personal contributions, bazaars and dinners. For months the Relief Society women, under the leadership of Mildred Smith and Claire Jones and Mae Para-shont, Para-shont, have been busy making quilts, painted towels, head work, gloves and moccasins to be ' sold at auction this month. Add-1 Ing to the collection will be leather lea-ther goods, blankets and beautiful beauti-ful Jardlncers made by the Mexican Mex-ican Indians. Every organization of the branch has contributed to a beautiful display of articles. This desire to help themselves is an expression of their desire to be independent, self-supposing citizens of our community. Another expression Is their desire de-sire and determination to build for themselves modern homes of which they and their children can be proud. They can be assured assur-ed that the people of Cedar City are proud of their efforts to rise socially, culturally and educationally educa-tionally as well as spiritually. |
