Show Florence Mitchell, Mary 0. Topham To Head City Beautification Program With the advent of spring anil the time of year for the annual beautification program to get under way In Parowan, city officials of-ficials have again named Mrs. Florence (Frostie) Mitchell and Mrs. Mary O. Topham, to have charge of the 1905 beautitication drive in Parowan. These two ladies worked long and hard on their project last year and have been named to head that drive again this year. In getting the drive under way this year, they use our columns this week to enumerate many of the things that were accomplished accomplish-ed last year in the drive, and express their thanks to those who assisted. They express the hope that this work will continue contin-ue along the same lines. The following fol-lowing is their first message to local residents, to begin the campaign: cam-paign: Although some of our rosy beautification plans didn't materialize ma-terialize last year, still, the ground work was laid and a surprising sur-prising number of improvements were accomplished. Let's consider consid-er several of them: The 80 "block captains" who were personally contacted as "key" men to work with neighbors neigh-bors In cleaning up property, walks and adjacent street edges; we are depending on your fu)l cooperation again this season. The fine surfaced streets nil over town. The attractive new Main Street Lighting. The long ' needed lighting and water taps for tne Old Rock Church area. See the new paint Job on the south entrance to the old church (courtesy of the D U P). While you're there notice the evergreen plantings In the central section and the spring flowers J'ist ready to burst Into bloom (labor, green-cry green-cry and bulbs ail gifts from Frosty Fros-ty Mitchell). For the beautiful petunia beds around the War Memlarlal, wc are Indebted to the Legion Aux lllary. The colorful flower plantings plant-ings along the south access road to the church were the ONO i , Club's contribution. We thank the Legion for the new paint on their building, Ralph Orton and ' Bart Mortensen for the neatly . trimmed evergreens along Malr Street ? We thank the high school student stu-dent council and classes who responded re-sponded so loyally to their clean up assignments. Also to the scores of un sung heroes who pulled down old buildings and lences to create neater surroundings sur-roundings we thar.k whole-heart edly. Also the beauty conscious landscapes all over town who added so greatly to our pleasure. Let's tiy even harder this spring and summer. Although Fillmore is titled the "cleanest Small Town" USA, we can make Parowan the "prettiest" small town, USA. Will you help. |
