Show Iron Mission Camp cf CUP Hears Reports The Iron Mission Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers met Friday and enjoyed an interesting interest-ing program. A guest, Mrs. Leo Cahoon, gave la history of her great-grandfather, James Starley of Fillmore, one of Utah's prominent pioneers. The lesson was given by Rach- I el Thorley on Utah Pioneer Re- ' creation Centers. She pointed out that the pioneers had a great ability to enjoy life in this desolate des-olate land and It was undobuted-ly undobuted-ly a deciding factor in their eventual success and fulfillment. Of special Interest was the account ac-count of the recreational places in the Cedar City area. Boasting more than their share of fine musicians, solosits and actors who performed in the old Social Hall on the corner of 100 East and Center Street and which stood for 3G years as a place for all gatherings, was one of the most important. Others were the Opera House, where community plays and musicals were present- ed; the Tabernacle on the corner of Main and Center Streets, the Branch Normal School and its cultural center. Outdoor recreation recrea-tion took place at Iron Springs, the lake on the mountain side, May Flat and many other spots on the mountain. The program for the May meeting, meet-ing, final meeting of the season sea-son will include a visit to a number num-ber of these Interesting places, then return to the College Student Stu-dent Center for lunch and meeting. meet-ing. DUP officials remind everyone of the Pioneer Memorial Museum in Salt Lake City, maintained by the National Society of Utah Pioneers. It is located at 300 North Main, immediately im-mediately west of the State Capital. Ca-pital. It is open from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. week days and 1 to 5 p. m. on Sundays, April through October. The officers point out that it would be well worth anyone's any-one's time to visit the museum. I Admission is free and the dls-I dls-I plays are most Interesting. |
