Show Redmen Basketballers inHighSpirits As They Move to New Gymnasium I Its the Christmas season, but thats not the entire reason for the high spirits at Cedar High School. The big reason, at least for the athletic department, is the fact that on Saturday, Dec. 21 the first game to be played in the new High School gymnasium is on tap. . Fittingly the Parowan High School Rams have been selected as the opponent for the important import-ant occasion. Game time is set for 8 p.m. 1 That is not the only game of the week for Richard Hobbs and his Redmen crew, but it is certainly cer-tainly an important one. Friday night the Redmen take on South Sevier High School of Monroe. That game will be played play-ed at the College of Southern Utah Memorial fieldhouse with tip off set for 8 p. m. The Redmen are in need of a little uplift in spirit and the new gymnasium, It is hoped, will provide that lift To date the Redmen are sporting sport-ing a one win and five loss record. rec-ord. The only win was squeaker squeak-er over Richfield High School. In meeting South Sevier Friday the Redmen will be up against another strong team and Saturday's Satur-day's contest will pit the Cedar crew against a team that has already al-ready defeated them in a game played at Parowan. Regardless of that record the Redmen are anxiously looking forward to their first game in the new gymnasium. For those who have not been out to the new high school a little lit-tle orientation may be in order. The building is located in the southwest portion of Cedar City find ihe gymnasium is the east building of the educational complex. com-plex. The public parking area is located to the south of the building build-ing and is accessible from the West side of the school buildings. build-ings. Traveling on 600 South entry en-try to the parking area may be gained by turning south after passing the new building. The main entrance to the gymnasium is located on the south exposure adjacent to the parking area. Coach Hobbs is expected to stay mostly with his same boys for these two contests. Lee Hunter, Hun-ter, who is the top scorer for the Redmen to date will undoubtedly be on the post. Expected to get the starting calls at forwards are Wes Roberts and Joe Ward with Bruce Holmes and John Black on the backline. The Redmen are still not up to full strength. Still out of action is Don Pa Id, a guard, and Ward may be somewhat hampered by an injury sustained this past week in the Iron County Tournament Tourna-ment Moving into the new gymnasium gymna-sium Saturday a complete new set of records will be established and it is hoped that the high school, with tht move, will begin a program of record keeping for the new facility. Some things that might be looked for in Saturday's contest include: The first basket to be made in the new gymnasium. High scorer for the first game. Final scores and the beginning of a record of won and lost on the new floor for the host Redmen, along with records in total combined com-bined scores, total single scores by one team. At any rate, the game Saturday Satur-day is the first activity, the first public, and first function of any kind to be held at the new high school. It should be interesting. Not only the game, which promises prom-ises to be a good one, but the opportunity op-portunity to see the new gymnasium gymna-sium as well. |
