Show .AT REGULAR MEETING Council Adopts New Ordinances for Cedar City, Disposes of Other Pending Business Two ordinances were adopted by the City Council at its regular meeting June 16, one making a change in zoning regulations in the northwest portion of the city and the other prohibiting the sale of goods to second hand stores by minors. The change in the zoning regulations re-gulations was adopted as a means of making it possible for the Columbia Iron Mining Company Com-pany to erect a large office building build-ing in an area previously designated desig-nated as a residential area. The building is to be located North of 200 North street at 1500 West and the change In the zoning ordinance ordin-ance applies only to the land on which the building will be located. Use regulations are set up In the ordinance, providing that only an office building may be erected on the land, and providing provid-ing that the building shall be set back from the front street not less than 40 feet, that the building build-ing cover not more than 35 percent per-cent of the lot area, that side yards of 25 feet and a rear yard of 30 feet be provided. Other provisions pro-visions are that a wall or hedge 5 feet high shall be constructed along dividing property lines, that at least 20 percent of the area shall be devoted to land- scaping, that the building shall not exceed two stories in height, providing that off street parking be provided for those using the building and controlling the size of any sign that may be erected on the property. No Objections A hearing on the proposed zoning zon-ing change had been called, and when no protest was made the Council adopted an ordinance providing for the change. The ordinance appears on another page of this issue of the Iron County Record. The other ordinance, which also al-so appears in this issue of the Record, prohibits second hand dealers or 1unk dpalprs from nnr. chasing goods from anyone under 18 years of age, and places the burden of proof on the dealer. The ordinance becomes effective on July 13th. Other action taken at the meeting meet-ing of the council included a decision de-cision to make repairs on the runways of the municipal airport, air-port, mostly seal coating, which will be undertaken on a cooperative coopera-tive basis with the state. The total to-tal cost, it is estimated, will be about $15,000, with the city and state dividing the cost. The work is already underway, city officials report. Franchise Application D. W. Corry and John Rowberry met with the council to discuss the possibility of obtaining a franchise to bring television into Cedar City. No action was taken on the matter, since formal application ap-plication was not made. The two gentlemen, who represented a group seeking to establish television televi-sion service for the city, were informed in-formed that consideration would be given the matter when written application for a franchise Is filed with the city. Reappointment of Loren A. Whetten and D. C. Schmutz to the city water board was approved approv-ed at the meeting. Both were re-apolnted re-apolnted for three-year terms. Establishment of a traffic warning signal, or "blinker" light on Main Street at 400 South street was ordered by the council. |
