Show Mystery Mail Blamed For Delay In VA Office Response Veterans Administration has explained why seme veterans are not receiving faster replies to their letters concerning claims for benefits. VA said it is receiving an average av-erage of 1,500.000 pieces of "Mystery" mail every month Mail without proper identification identifica-tion either of the veteran or of his claim. Since such mail requires a considerable con-siderable search of records to identify the veteran or his claim, delavs result in replying, VA j said. The monthly average of 1,500,-'000 1,500,-'000 pieces of "mystery" mail is I approximately 14 per cent of the 10,500.000 pieces ol mail received by VA monthly throughout the country. That means 14 out of every 100 letters require some tracing work to relate them to the right veterans and to the right claims. For faster service, VA advises , every veteran writing to VA concerning con-cerning a claim for a benefit to follow these sinple instructions: instruc-tions: Give your full name and ad- dress, preferably printed or typewritten type-written over your signature. Give your service serial number. num-ber. If VA already has alloted you a "C" or claim number, give that too. It is one of the most important numbers in VA's filing fil-ing system. Where GI life insurance is involved, in-volved, you should also specify the policy number. In event you cannot remember or locate your "("' number or insurance in-surance policy number, be sure to give your date of birth and the period in which you served on active duty in the armed forces. |
