Show High School Awards Assembly Stresses Scholarship Deviating from the procedure of past years, the awards assembly assem-bly at the Parowan High School last week placed more stress on scholastic activity in the school and less on the athletic side of the picture. While the usual awards were given for taking part in extra-curricular affairs, none were given by the school fur athletic achievement other than those already received by the students taking part in athletic ath-letic events from the daily press for being named to state and regional re-gional teams. In the following listing, those receiving athletic awards, received re-ceived them for recognition by the daily papers of the state. Hyatt, farm mechanics; Erie Clark, athletics; Ruth Jenson, music, dramatics; Zolla Mortensen. publications, dancing; David Orton, athletics; Clifford Robb, agriculture; Chas. Robh. music, dramatics; Ilettie Ann Jones, publications; Jackie Ward, publications; Jim Miller, oratory, farm mechanics; Sieve Orton, essay; James Burt, esray; Ross Birch, ceramics; Richard Rich-ard Batt, cerarnics; Dorothy Sim-kins, Sim-kins, business; Larry King, business. busi-ness. For best assemblies, the senior class received a prize of $10.00 1 for its Minstrel Show, the ninth grade $5.00 for its program and the student council $2.50 for its Christmas assembly. Scholarships awarded to students stu-dents of the local school so far are as follows: top Standard Oil scholarship to Shirley Robinson, Carl R. Gray scholarships to Clifford Clif-ford Robb and Marie Adams; a scholarship to Dorothy Simkins from Brigham Young University for scholastic achievement, a similar one from the Salt Lake Area Vocational school to Keith Halterman; a College of Southern South-ern Utah scholarship to Mama Heap and a Salt Lake City Rotary Ro-tary Club scholarship to Charles Topham, to attend at U of U. |
