Show Widtsoe Scholarship Made Available To Delta Phi Members Returned missionaries attending attend-ing the College of Southern Utah are eligible to apply for a new series of annual scholarships announced an-nounced by the John A. Widtsoe Memorial Foundation for Scholarships Schol-arships and Research. Nominations for the scholarships scholar-ships are to be made by eight chapters of Delta Thi, honorary fraternity, returned missionary organization founded by the late church leader and educator. These chapters are located at Brigham Young University, University Uni-versity of Utah, Utah State Agricultural Agri-cultural College, Weber College, C S U, Idaho State College, Ricks College, and Arizona State College Col-lege at Tempe. Three scholarships totaling $900 will be awarded for 1954-55. 1954-55. These are; $500 scholarship for graduate study; $200 scholarship scholar-ship for upper division study; $200 scholarship for lower division divi-sion study. Selections will be made on the basis of character, leadership and achievement in academic work. Dr. Joel E. Ricks, head of the department of history at U S A C is chairman of the scholarship committee of the Foundation. The 1951-55 scholarships will be the first of a series of annual, awards planned by the Widtsoe foundation to assist returned missionaries in furthering their education after returning home. The foundation has been organized organ-ized to permit friends and admirers ad-mirers of Dr. Widtsoe to honor his memory by giving tangible aid to young men who are potential po-tential leaders of the future. As a fore-runner of the Foundation's Foun-dation's scholarship program, the Delta Phi fraternity awarded earlier ear-lier this year three scholarships of $100 each |
