Show Road Crews Begin Painting of Fire Prevention Signs Sign crews will commence a 3,000 mile jaunt over Utah highways high-ways on June 1 to paint some 80 "Keep Utah Green" fire prevention pre-vention signs in selected locations loca-tions throughout the state, it was announced today. Painting fire prevention signs on the highways of Utah, an important im-portant portion of the Governor's Keep Utah Green Committee's work, will be carried out this year to keep fire prevention in the public eye. "Some of the most effective signs made are those placed directly on the road surface," sur-face," said E. J. Fjeldsted, chairman chair-man of the - Keep Utah Green Committee. He indicated that the State Road Commission has given giv-en approval to the project and has cooperated in selecting the most effective locations for the signs. Even though the fire weather has made conditions serious in some sections of the state prior to June 1, almost every area will pose serious wildland fire problems prob-lems after that time extending until general fall precipitation occurs. Unless there is some kind of break in the weather pattern Utah faces one of its most severe fire seasons and every agency Is marshalling its entire force to keep fire loss on the vital forests and mountain watersheds to a minimum. The keep green movement is a citizens program designed by business and civic organizations to concentrate public spirit and cooperation in an effort to prevent pre-vent man-caused fires. As pointed point-ed out this week by Governor Lee, it is to everybody's economic benefit to be careful with wild fire. Mr. Fjeldsted backed up the Governor by quoting an old adage, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." "I am confident that with the Chamber of Commerce, J. C. C. other civic clubs and business joining together we can do an effective job of Keeping Utah Green to Keep Utah Growing," said Fjeldsted. |
