Show Commission Asks For Bids on Coal Creek Bridge Bids will be opened at the State Capitol in Salt Lake City on Tuqsday, Jan. 15, for the construction con-struction of a new bridge over Coal creek on Highway 91 on North Main street in Cedar City. The project Is one of vital importance im-portance to the improvement of traffic handling through Cedar City, the narrow bridge having been a bottle-neck in traffic mnvpmpnt for mnnv vnnro In addition to being very narrow, the birdge is high, creating a blind approach from either side, and there are entrances to the highway both north rfnd south of the bridge. This condition, together to-gether with the tremendous increase in-crease in travel, has created a serious traffic hazard. The project is a part of the improvement program on, the highway through Cedar City started last summer with the widening of Main street and the improvement of the approach to the city on the south. Bids are called for the construction con-struction of the bridge and Improvements Im-provements of the approaches, for a total distance of 0.183 miles. iThe bridge, it is understood will be 72 feet wide and will be much lower than the present structure. Major items in the contract will be 1,256 cubic yards of concrete con-crete and 208,000 pounds of reinforcing re-inforcing steel. Plans for the bridge have been under consideration for a long time, and after the plans had been approved it was feared the project could not be undertaken because of the lack of steel supplies. |
